Mid Project Evaluation

Since starting A2 Photography, i decided that i wanted to focus my project on commercial photograph as it was something i hadn't done before however i was interested in exploring. When thinking of shoots, i realized that many of them needed planning to ensure they would be effective and create the photographs in which i have wanted. The thing that i have liked them most so far is the diversity of my project as it always me to photograph people and objects therefore i am not always having to rely on others to do my shoot for me. I have also found that setting up the studio for personal shoot takes a lot more time and precision as i have become to realize the effects if the lighting or background is not correct.

A mistake which i think i have made, is with my first personal shoot which was an animation. I felt that this didn't work as well as i wanted and expected it to as i did not leave enough time to plan the shoot as well as giving more consideration to what i was photograph as i felt this affected the overall animation. Therefore i would like to develope this shoot, and make a better commercial animation especially as i have had more practice due to animation being one of the techniques,

When thinking about the progress of my personal project, i feel that i have began to focus more on lighting the product perfectly to ensure the photograph looks professional and could be used for advertising the product. Up until now i have done 5 personal shoot looking at various commercial photograph such as drinks, food, perfume and fashion. When thinking about how i am going to progress with my project, i i would to explore more elements of commercial photograph however expand on drinks as this i feel is my strongest area when looking at some of my straight prints.

Video Work Diary

This is one of the video which i created for the video technique. When i was thinking about what i wanted to video, i wanted to some how relate it to fine art in the way in which there was no meaning behind it and that it was there purely to just look at. With this specific video i edited it on premiere pro to make it look like there was two different movements of the flag rather than just one, I did this by slowing one copy of the video down to ensure that the flag would move at a different time to the original. This is feel gave the flags a ghostly look them as if they had control over them self rather than the wind having control over them and making them move

Multiple Exposure Image Bank

This first photograph has used multiple exposure to show the different movement of some ballet dancing. A black background has been used to allow each exposure to standout and not get lost in the background. Some of the exposure are not as dense as other due to there being many of them over lapping causing some movements to be as clear as others

This photograph is showing multiple exposure by having the model move to different places with the composition. Again a black background has been used as this will give the best outcome when shooting multiple exposure in the studio. The exposure at the bottom on the composition appears to much lighter which may be due to it being over lapped by other photographs which were taken after.

This photograph has used multiple exposure to show the different movements of the young girl on the beam.  As this has been taken on location and it infront of a busy background, there isn't really a clear contrast between the girl and the background which is something that be easily created when photographing multiple exposure in the studio using a black background/

This photograph has used multiple exposure to show the different movements of the boy going along the ramp on his skate board. This technique enables the audience to see it in a way in which the human eye can not as from this photograph we are able to see the whole process in one shot rather than loads of individual shots.

This photograph has used multiple exposure to show the process of a horse going up to a fence to then jump. This example is different from the other as the horse starts of much darker and in the dark however the close it gets to the fense, the brighter it becomes until when it jumps over the fense and it is lit up completely.

This last example show the most simple photograph in which you can achieve with multiple exposure, This has been taking in a studio against a black background which created a clear contrast between the model and the background. Multiple exposure has made this photograph look as if the model is standing back to back with himself.

Photographer No.3- Julia Kennedy

I have made Julia Kennedy one of my chosen photographers as i personally would like to experiment with fashion photograph from a commercial point of view and this is something that Julia Kennedy focuses on. I was fascinated by the way in she creates a small story within the photograph and although many of them appear to have busy composition, she is still able make the model and the clothing stand out and be the main focus. Also some of her photograph appear to allow the audience to relate to them which is something i did not expect from this type of photography.

This first photograph by Julia Kennedy is advertising the womens clothing range from 'Cruise'. A simple wood looking background has been used to add a natural feel to the photograph. The model is placed just slightly towards the left side of the composition. She appears to be looking directly into the camera with a stern and almost confused look on her face. This i feel would attract the audience as they would be intrigued as to why she is looking like this and whether there is a reason behind it, The company name/logo has been placed in the centre of the composition as this would be the most important part for the company as they would want to make people aware of who they are .Warm colours have been used throughout when thinking about the outfit, make-up and background. This may be suggesting the season in which this commercial photograph is for, therefore in this example it would be autumn as these are the colours in which many would associate with this season

This second photograph by Julia Kennedy is advertising the mens clothing range from 'Cruise'. This photograph appears to have been taken in a studio with a light coloured background. However it has been edited to be made black and white which i feel has been done to allow the company logo to standout as it white therefore a contrast would be created. The model is sitting down in the centre of the composition, looking directly at the camera, This i feel involves the audience and would grab their attention. Like the above photograph, taken by Julia Kennedy, the company name/logo has been placed in the centre of the composition to ensure that it is the main focus and the audience are aware of the company if there were to look further.  Lastly when looking at the models facial expression, he looks as if he is deep thought which would essentially intenice the audience therefore adding to the persuasive element of commercial photography.

This third photograph by Julia Kennedy is advertising the women's range for 'Oasis'. This photograph appears to be different from the rest as it is taken much closer therefore showing less of the model. However i feel that this has been done as this specific photograph is focusing on the statement necklace in which the model is wearing. Julia Kennedy would have decided to get the model to wear a black top to create the best contrast with the necklace to allow it to stand out. Also the necklace is in the centre of the composition therefore making it be the main focal point for the audience this is were we are most likely to look. The company name/logo is placed in the bottom left corner of the composition however it can still be easily seen due to it being placed against a black background. Lastly the background is slightly blurred creating a minimum depth of field.

This forth photograph by Julia Kennedy is again advertising the women's clothing range for 'Oasis'.This long shot shows the whole of the models outfit as well as part of the location in which she is in. I feel that Julia Kennedy has wanted to create a meaning behind this photograph rather than just taking it for commercial reason. This being that everyday household just can be complete whilst looking good and fashionable. When looking at the colours throughout the photograph, there is a constant use of pastel colours and shades which creates a flat contrast which i feel adds a old fashion look to it. Lastly the company name/logo has been placed in the bottom right corner of the composition however it is still visible to the audience.

Influence
I was influenced by Julia Kennedy as i would now like to look into fashion commercial photograph as this is an area which i have always wanted to look into however have never had the opportunity to however i am now aware of how it can be used in a commercial way in order to sell a companies clothing or accessory range. Also i would to look at adding the company name into the composition as this is something which appears to common in fashion commercial photographs.

Summary
Overall i like Julia Kennedy's work as she has a unique way of showing fashion commercial photograph by placing the models in real life, everyday situation such as ironing which is something which is not commonly seen as most commercial fashion photography is shot in a studio rather than in a house hold location. Also i like how she used vibrant colours in the background and props however is still able to ensure that the model and her clothing is the main focus, this is due to her creating a contrast against the two/

My Own Work:
This is an example of my own work. I was influenced by Julia Kennedy as previously i hadn't considered looking at fashion from a commercial point of view however this turned out to be something that i really enjoyed and i would like to look at more shoot like this. However maybe experimenting with the location as this is also something that Julia Kennedy does.

Personal Shoot No.5 Work Diary

This is my best photograph from my 5th personal shoot. My aim to achieve a good commercial photography for 'Smirnoff' wss to place the bottle into piles of ice cubes to portray refreshness within the photograph. By keeping the background simple, i was able to make the red sections of the bottle standout which is where the companies logo is therefore this is a key element in trying to sell this product. When editing this specific photograph, i decided to use the smart sharpen tool to allow the ice cubes to have depth as well as establishing the edge of the bottle from the ice that it is on.

In this second photograph from my 5th personal shoot, i decided that i wanted to take a different approach. I kept the ice cubes as the background, however i wanted to take this photograph much closer up allowing the audience to only see the top part of the bottle showing the company logo. I thought that this was acceptable as 'Smirnoff' are a well known and established company therefore they do not need to necessarily specify that it is vodka. Again this photograph has overall feel of refreshment and freshness to it due to the use of the piles of ice cubes surrounding the bottle of 'Smirnoff'.

This shoot has influenced me to look at more drink commercial photography as i feel this i something that i a better at due to me previously having photographed liquid last year. If i was to do this shoot again, i would consider using brighter lighting as well as editing it to be different colours to represent nightlife.

What influenced me to do this shoot
I was influenced to do from shoot 3 as i wanted to continue to look at drink as this was something that i found interesting due to the different lighting which i hadn't used before.

As a result of this shoot i feel much more confident with photographing drink therefore it is something that i would like to continue to experiment with throughout this project.

Future Shoot
In a future shoot, i would like to look at photographing liquid however through cosmetics such as nail vanish opposed to drinks. This means that i will be able to use my knowledge of lighting liquid in this shoot therefore i will be able to approach it with confidence.
